The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
What do people think about this , you would think that if we play the two holding midfielders , that if all three are playing to their ptential , Kouyate and Song would be two.

Watching billic MOTD interview yesterday , he hailed Winston leadership from the back , and i think he would be a better choice for captaincy , as when fit he starts , mark has his hands full keeping hold of his shirt this season, and ideally you want your captain to start every match.

That said Nobes was great yesterday, and having a canning town lad as captain is awesome.

will he still have the armband next season ,what do we think ?

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Not sure Reid is guaranteed to start either. Tomkins is a very good defender and has been better this season (city aside) and last. Ogbonna is also good, doubt any are guaranteed as our squad has great options.

i know what you're saying, but Reid will start every PL game if available.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Not our best defender in Tomkins then?

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Thats a matter of conjecture , ried/oggy are his first choice , and tomkins either filling in at right back as we have seen already , or when either are unavailable.

or even ried and tomkins as first choice, ried starts. regardless. IMO

I disagree, but happy with any permutation, great isn't it.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
I believe that Reid and Tomkins are a fantastic central defence pairing and they would be my own choice. Seems Slav prefers Ogbonna because he is naturally left sided although it would be difficult to split the current pairing.

Think Reid is slightly better defender than Tomkins but very little in it. Great to have the option.

I do think Nobles place is in doubt come a fully fit squad but competition for places in good all round. I'm sure the manager will select on merit not place of birth.

Re: The return of Alex SONG , and NOBLE's captaincy
NOBLE ,unless he is injured will certainly be in a matchday squad of eighteen.

Next Year when a squad will have three or five addition from a youth teamon the bench will gove us three Goalies in the Matchday squad,

That will confuse some of our red necking posters for shore

It's up for discussion longy

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Can't see Noble being replaced as club captain. Nor should he be.

Who plays is a different matter. With this high standard squad expect to see player rotation much more frequently, i.e. tactically/strategically rather than only when injuries occur.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Shouldn't the captain be exempt from rotation , or is that old fashioned ?

Not so sure, you dont see Kompany rotated, if fit he plays, same with JT (up until recently)

Does the Armband guarantee noble a place regardless of form ?

Just a good thing is form has been tip top :O)

Nice option to have, With injuries and formations I'm not sure there's too many times it'll come up.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Lets wait until all of our midfielders are healthy for any extended period of time.

Loved his leadership telling Jenkinson to get the fuck off the pitch and picking the whinging gooner up.

Reid may have his own battle on his hands to not be #3 CB despite his immense game vs City.

Wouldn't mind Payet played on the wing with Moses, Noble, Kouyate, and Song as the other midfielders. He will be on the bench at some point but that is going to involve all those players being healthy for an extended period...it might not happen to be totally honest Kouyate got injured for no apparent reason right before we played the league leaders.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
If Song gets back to his pre-Christmas form of last season then surely he will start most games.

After Saturday it looks as though only two DM will be the order of the day.... surely our best two are Kouyate and Somg? (Amazing that neither played against City.... what a great squad we have!)

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Noble will remain club captain all season. No point talking about next as we don't know what happens in summer but I would be gobsmacked if he wasn't club captain taking us into new season at Olympic Stadium.

With regards to the team place it is quite simple. While he is playing like he is he will stay in the team. If he drops in form and others are fit he will start losing some game time - just as it should be and just as it is with any player in the squad.

Make no mistake though, he will not be dropped just because Song and Kouyate are fit. He form at the moment is better than Kouyate Imo and far far better than Songs was second half of last season

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
As a natural defensive mid, obiang is our best option, tackles well and plays it simple all the time, his positional sense and understanding of his role is excellent, and has a great engine to get about the pitch when needed.

It's great to have this "selection headache" gone are the days of kovac Spector and boa morte in midfield.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
Yep Noble will be dropped and never play for us again. He will give Reid and Song the Captaincy.

RIP Mark Nobles West Ham United career.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
It'll be a real dilemma. Four good centre midfielders for two positions.

Re: The return of Alex Song , and Noble's captaincy
it will be three positions i a lot of away games surely, I doubt Lanzini would have started Saturday if Kouyate was fit as surely he played as one of the central 3.
